It is important to realise that the vast majority of people who are religious are sincere, although these pages on other religions are criticisms. My intention is to invite people to think about their faith as everybody cannot be right. There are some self-seekers in every religion too so anybody joining a faith must be aware of the flaws to see where they are vulnerable. I cannot point out every inconsistency, only show some and describe some of my experiences. The rest you have to figure out but I believe personally, though I do not expect people to also believe this as it is from personal experience, that there are souls who are out here who will try to help you, quiet guardians of peace, love and reason. If I have any ambition it is to be one of those guardians myself, to protect the gentle caring unambitious souls who often lead lives of such suffering
Scientology has some points which relate to things written here but it differs it not providing a limit to the extent to which it impinges on other’s lives.
When I was in Copenhagen in the early 1970’s for a holiday I met a Scientologist called Bernt who worked at a youth hotel. He would advise people like me who got free nights by working at the hotel not to use too much washing up liquid as it would pollute the Baltic. years later I find a Hollywood star, John Travolta, flying Jumbo jets, Boeing 747s, around the world for his own pleasure. Such a complete contrast could not exist. The problem is that new Scientology as practised in Hollywood see the price of everything but the value of nothing. the worst thing for people who live on and love this planet would be for the scenario sketched out in L Ron Hubbard’s book Battlefield Earth to come about, where everything is considered owned and has no value unless it can be traded. Wilderness and evolution are ignored, joy and pleasure at seeing a lakeland site in Cumbria, England or reading a poem about nature are sacrificed to the altar of business. Most mamals on this planet which cannot be used for food will die out, all others will be farmed if Travolta attitudes take-off. To a large extent the cult of personality already has doomed many species.
“Do God and Satan permit this?” A Muslim or Christian believer might ask themselves. I would say yes because Hubbard followers will help God turn the world into a desert because they prefer jumbo jets to elephants in the wild.
This is sad and perhaps Hubbard’s rich folowers should listen to Bernt, not Travolta. If the one third of humanity Hubbard says will be dominated by two thirds, are all evolutionary biologists and conservationists then his cult remains unwelcome to me.
As a plus point for scientology, note that where I have talked in this web site of an awareness of chemistry trying to inhibit my consciousness, to make reasoning difficult or relationships or make sure one only sees what is dictated by religion, then there are parallels with what scientolgists call “mest”. This mest is a mysterious thing which prevents us from being what scientologists call operating thetans, which is some perfect state of mind. The difficulty I have with that is the payments they require for this state to be reached and maintained. While work of the mind or body may be seen as a method to reach alternative levels of consciousness, why do you need to pay to maintain that state? It reminds me of the two Amsterdam resident Hells Angels that appeared in Copenhagen in 1977 (see the page on “after Bliss”), one of whom appeared to believe that everything has to be paid for and indeed the church preaches that the last mite cannot be paid for if you are an unrepentant sinner. the question is who is giving who permission to charge for all these things which logically by evolution of consciousness, could be free. it also reminds me why lots of religions curse those who leave them, Christianity and Islam because you have stopped Praying and scientology because you have stopped Paying.
