In Jane Goodall’s study of chimpanzees she observed that despite being members of the troupe, when some chimpanzees left the group and formed another group in another part of the forest, patrolling members of the original group killed every one of them over a period of time. Does that mean that deep in the Nazi psyche beat the heart of natural apes. They identified those groups in their society which had decided for whatever reason to keep a separate identity and killed them all. Does that mean integration of the Jews and gypsies into German society would have saved them? Was therefore the Nazi party acting as apes in accepting those Jews who had married into their own clan? Utterly alpha ape Goebbels.

One would have to say that in any society even today, those on the margins, such as hippies in the 60s, are often seen in much the same light as Jews in Nazi Germany. The newspapers encourage a view that such people are outsiders and should be persecuted. The newspapers thus are acting like ape groups patrolling their patch of forest. It is a pity they cannot move on from that. This of course might be a reason why Jews gravitate towards the media as well as politics. Control of or involvement in the press and television may offer control of who gets persecuted.

My own feeling is that this is probably not necessary and an ambition which can backfire, becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy by Hitler and Nazis that Jews and other minorities try to manipulate society by control or involvement in the media. My evidence for this is the social experiments of the sixties and seventies in Denmark and some other countries. The hippie city within a city of Christiania in Copenhagen and the “Thy Samforbund” in central Denmark are examples of a tolerant society supporting alternatives . In these cases the ape paranoia of the general, (white and broadly Christian), population which might have led them to destroy alternatives had been defeated through education so that different models of life-styles could co-exist. However, for whatever reason, as I detail elsewhere in this web-site, the Danes who were living somewhat alternative life-styles turned on me in 1977 . I am however not tempted to spite their lifestyles. I do not believe they have an excuse for what they did, otherwise in the intervening decades they could easily have sought me out and apologised, since they know so much but that does not mean it is wrong to explore alternatives for future living.

We should then try to advance as a civilisation from our ape tendency, without discrediting apes, to me more alternative friendly. In fact by such a shift in thinking we stand a chance of respecting animals sufficiently to see the value of what their patterns of living and caring can teach us. We can preserve the biodiversity of this wonderful planet which has nurtured our ancestors over millions of years. What we see as wrong we have the intelligence to rise above. What we see we can learn from.
